AAR Japan has dispatched our emergency relief teams to the Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, where more than 70 people have died so far and rescue efforts are continuing in the affected areas.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated to shelters set up in local primary school in Suzu City.　AAR and partner NPO started a soup kitchen on the evening of 3 January, and hot meals were cooked and served there. Local people who received the meals said “I really appreciate a hot meal, as it’s so cold in the morning and evening”, “We are very shocked by the disaster. We need this kind of support”. Many buildings collapsed in the city, and collapsed houses were seen in the vicinity of the evacuation center.
