Surveyed in the affected areas: Pakistan Floods
21/09/2024
In Pakistan, heavy rains that have continued since July have caused massive flooding in many areas, resulting in the deaths of more than 100 people so far.
AAR Japan (Association for Aid and Relief, Japan) has dispatched staff members of AAR Islamabad office to the affected areas to survey the situation.
AAR has dispatched four local staff members to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northern part of the country, which has been particularly damaged. The province is located in a mountainous region, and the large amount of rain that fell in the mountains turned into muddy water, causing landslides and mudslides in many areas. In addition to the water supply facilities for domestic use and small-scale hydropower facilities in the mountains being washed away, roads, bridges, and houses have been swallowed by the muddy waters, causing serious damage throughout the region.
Schools visited by AAR staff members also suffered tremendous damage. Schools built along the river had muddy water from the flooded river flowing into the classrooms. Other schools also suffered damage, including destruction of walls around the property, toilets built next to school buildings, and playground equipment in the school yard.
AAR has provided assistance to schools affected by the Pakistan floods in the summer of 2022, and is now considering assistance in repairing school buildings and sanitary facilities such as toilets during the current floods.
The floods that have hit Pakistan have not been widely reported in the media. We would like to ask for your support for AAR’s emergency relief efforts for the floods in Pakistan.
