Emergency Response to the Kumamoto Earthquake
29/07/2026 ( update 24/08/2026 )

At around 4:27 PM on July 28, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck the Kumamoto region of Kumamoto Prefecture, registering a maximum seismic intensity of 7 in the prefecture.
The full extent of the damage is not yet known, but reports indicate that there are power outages and building damage in the affected areas.
AAR Japan (Association for Aid and Relief, Japan) will begin emergency assistance. Drawing on the experience gained through domestic disaster relief operations—including the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the Noto Peninsula earthquake—we will deliver support to those affected as quickly as possible. Our planned relief activities include distributing food and providing emergency supplies.
We sincerely ask for your generosity and support for AAR’s emergency assistance for the Kumamoto earthquake.
